A 3.5mm headphone amplifier will boost the sound signal coming from your Tablet and eReader headphone jack, so you can hear it louder from your headphones. It does this by using electricity from the headphone amplifier to boost the electrical current for powering your headphone to reproduce sound.
An Example of a Headphone Amplifier is the Fiio E3 Headphone Amp which is powered by a single AAA battery with a battery life of 20 hours. It can increase the sound's volume for high impendence and low sensitivity headphones which are low without an amp. Amps for headphones will also increase your battery powered music players battery life because it means you can lower the volume on your music player or tablet eReader, and still be able to enjoy louder music at a lower volume because it is amplified with a headphone amplifier. It can also improve the bass and treble for your headphones to have a better listening experience. It only costs 7.50 US dollars on Amazon, but can make your Tablet, eReader, MP3 player, Netbook, Laptop, and other device with a 3.5mm headphone jack sound like a more expensive louder player.

Why you need a Headphone Amp for low volume devices when paired with low quality headphones?
I notice some more inexpensive insensitive headphones, eReaders and Tablets seem to have a low volume where the sound is very low even on the highest maximum volume settings. This sometimes happen to me when I use the Kobo Vox eReader Tablet with cheaper low quality headphones. The sound is not very loud and sounds kind of like tin, and not as rich because the volume can't go any higher.
Sometimes, even when Tablets are plug into portable speakers they are not loud as I want them to be, but with an amplifier it will improve the signal so it is stronger, so I don't have to turn my external speakers super high to just listen to medium volume audio, but instead turn my volume lower on my speaker which is being amplified with a portable amp for 3.5mm headphones to enjoy louder sound at lower volume settings for both my Tablet eReader and external PC speaker.
Using a headphone amplifier is easy all you do is plug it between your 3.5mm headphones, and tablet or eReader headphone jack, and turn it on to enjoy better sound on your headphones, and speakers. For just a few dollars you can buy the Fiio E3 Headphone Amp and enjoy your sound louder instead of not being able to hear your Tablet or eReader when it is loud out without the amp.

Its amazing what is is happening with headphones this days. Beats By Dre are very good. Would you be willing to spend $1000.00 on headphones? Try Grado. Also with wireless and airplay like technologies, cordless head are definitely the way to go.
